Hyde Park

A town in Dutchess County on the east bank of the Hudson River, made up of several hamlets and home to the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt national historic sites.

Hyde Park, New York

A Hudson River Town in Dutchess County

Hyde Park is a town in Dutchess County, New York, on the east bank of the Hudson River. It is made up of several hamlets — including the Hyde Park hamlet along Route 9, Staatsburg to the north, and East Park — rather than a single downtown core, so the character shifts from riverfront estate land to wooded lots and neighborhood streets within a few miles. The town sits between Poughkeepsie to the south and Rhinebeck to the north, with Millbrook and the rest of Dutchess County to the east.

Historic Sites

Hyde Park is the location of three National Park Service sites: the Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site, the adjacent Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. The Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site (Val-Kill) is also within the town. The Culinary Institute of America occupies a Hudson-front campus on Route 9, and the Hyde Park Trail system connects several of these properties with the riverfront and town parks.

Housing and How People Use It

Housing in Hyde Park ranges from older village-scale homes and mid-century subdivisions to larger parcels with river or ridge views. Buyers here fall into two broad groups, and neither is the “right” one: year-round residents who live and work in the area, and weekend and second-home owners who use the house seasonally. The two groups look at the same inventory differently — day-to-day access and district enrollment matter to one, while lock-and-leave maintenance, winter access, and rental flexibility matter to the other — and we walk through those trade-offs with you before you make an offer.

New Development

Bellefield at Hyde Park is among the new-development communities featured by The Garay Team. Current details and the rest of our project list are on our New Developments page; we do not publish pricing, unit counts, or availability here that we cannot verify.

Everyday Life

Shopping, dining, and services are concentrated along the Route 9 corridor, with farm stands, antique shops, and seasonal markets in and around the hamlets. Public schools are operated by the Hyde Park Central School District; we do not publish school ratings, and we encourage families to contact the district directly and visit the schools they are considering.

Working With The Garay Team

We work throughout Hyde Park and the surrounding Hudson Valley. If you are considering a move here, start with Dutchess County, compare nearby Rhinebeck and Millbrook, or read about buying a second home in the valley. If you already own in Hyde Park and are thinking about a move, our seller resources are a good place to start.

Note: the neighborhood statistics shown below are supplied by third parties. Population, age, and income figures come from the U.S. Census Bureau, and walkability, bike, and points-of-interest data come from Walk Score and Yelp. They describe a mapped data area that may not match the Town of Hyde Park’s boundaries, are not verified by The Garay Team, and should be confirmed independently.
